AUTHORITIES AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE SCOOL
The schools authorities are the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Health and Human Services secretariat, Nursing Department of FCTA and Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
Ministry of FCT, Abuja:
the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja acts as the sole proprietor of the school.
Through the Health and Human Services secretariat (HHSS)/Nursing Department, the FCTA interprets and executes government and Nursing Council programs and policies as it is related to nursing man power development in FCT.
In conjunction with other organs of the government, it recruits, promotes and provides staff emolument in addition to providing training facilities for the school. The FCTA also appoints the administrative head of the institution and his/her deputy.
On the other hand, student's admission and allowances are under the jurisdiction of the HHSS/nursing department.
The Ministry of FCT shoulders the overall cost of running the institution.
Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (N & MCN):
The council is vested with the authority to:
A. Approve training institutions and hospitals and to conduct periodical inspections of these institutions, regulate standards of intake by indexing only students who have met the minimum requirement of 5 credits (including English language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry) at not more than 2 sittings.
B. Determine what standard of knowledge and skills are to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the profession and reviewing these standards from time to time as circumstance may require.
c. Improve methods employed in the basic and post basic education of nurses and midwives.
D. Conduct professional examinations for nurses and also appoint examiners.
E. Prosecute any known cases of unauthorized nursing training.
F. Register and license those who qualified.
ADMINISTRATION OF THE SCHOOL
Administratively, the Principal is the overall head of the institution and is assisted by the Vice Principals.
The Principal executes such policies and programs as approved by the FCTA or the council.
As the accounting officer, the Principal co-ordinates all activities of the institution which relates to administration, training of students, staff matters and general maintenance of the school.
The Principal also has the responsibility for maintenance of students, discipline, coordinating of student’s allowances and clinical posting programs.
The Vice Principal Administration assists the Principal in administrative matters while The Vice Principal Academic assists in academic matters.
